The Bellingham Mt. Baker region is rich in history, culture and the arts. Find time to enjoy a show at the classic Mount Baker Theatre. Learn something at the Whatcom Museum of History & Art. Soak in the sights of the abundant outdoor art or attend one of the many festivals. There is always a show for anyone to sit back relax and enjoy. For the history buffs out there, visit one of the many unique museums in the area. 

The Whatcom Museum of History and Art holds within its four amazing buildings evolving exhibits of modern art and artifacts with historical importance. This landmark with its bright red brick can be seen from almost anywhere around town. It is also one of the biggest museums in Washington State. Nearby are small art galleries filled with local, regional and national works of art. Every three months, there is a gallery walk downtown that displays featured artists, it?s a great way for art lovers to enjoy a social evening.

Performing arts are predominant in Whatcom County. The Mount Baker Theater has been a local icon for years. It recently under went a major renovation and is now hosting more than 100 live performances each year in the historic 1,500 seat theater. The Whatcom Symphony plays here regularly throughout the year.

One of the many advantages of having a major State University in the middle of a city is the opportunity for community members to enjoy the talents of the students. Western Washington University has a world renown 21- piece outdoor Sculpture Garden that was established in 1957. The board of trustees decided to include art in the budget of any new construction. Accordingly the sculpture collection includes major international, national and regional artists, and covers the changing in art from 1960 to the present.

Western?s popular summer ritual, Summer Stock, features first rate performances on warm summer nights, including a series at the Performing Art Center with an outstanding record for world- class artists. The Bellingham Festival of Music is held at the end of summer in August. It lasts for two weeks. World class orchestral, chamber and jazz musicians arrive to show off their talents. Venues are all over the city and even some in the county at Semiahmoo Resort, located near Blaine.

Bellingham has several beloved bookstores that serve the diligent reading population, featuring a shocking calendar of author presentations and events.
